2010

MFO celebrates it’s 5th Birthday.

Finalist in the MCA Freedman Fellowship held at the Sydney Opera House.

MFO“The Neverever Tour” – 12 concert National Tour in July.

MFO performance with drummer/composer John Hollenbeck (NYC) & vocalist Theo Bleckmann (NYC).

Co-Founder of new record label/new music publisher – Listen/Hear Collective.

PropelArts JUMP Mentor for emerging composer Elliott Hughes.

Commissioned by Vibraphonist Callum Moncrieff - a new work for Fused – performed at Soft Soft Loud Festival.


2009

MFO release Neverever... Well, Maybe Someday - Recorded live in Sydney during their 2008 National Tour.

MFO performs with American saxophonist Jon Gordon.

Appointed Artistic Director of the Western Australian Youth Jazz Orchestra (WAYJO).

MFO is WAAPA's 2009 Ensemble in Residence.

the hounds release Bell End Blues.

MFO recorded Chinese Whispers IV.

MFO & Luxe Bar become arts partners in a concert series at bamBOO.

the hounds tours Victoria including performances at The Victorian Jazz Club and The Wangaratta Festival of Jazz.

2007

Awarded Most Outstanding Individual Contribution to Jazz by the Perth Jazz Society.

MFO performed with American Jazz Legend Jim Pugh.

Premiered Chinese Whispers III - recorded for broadcast on ABC Classic FM - Jazztrack.

Premiered The Fool Poet's Portion composed by Melbourne composer, Eugene Ball.

Launched MFO LIVE. A limited edition CD recorded live on tour in Victoria. 4 original stencil art covers to choose from.

MFO nominated for WAMI Jazz Group of the Year.

MFO nominated for Most Outstanding Jazz Group of the Year 2006 by the Perth Jazz Society.

MFO weekly Residency at the Swan Basement featuring monthly special guests - 6 months (Jan-July)

Artistic Director/Producer of original/improvised music night Club EMU - first Thursday of the month at The Bakery Complex.

Personal assistant for Lalo Schifrin while in Perth for his Jazz Meets the Symphony concerts with WASO.

2006

MFO tour of Victoria - performing at Wangaratta Festival of Jazz, Bennetts Lane Jazz Club, Lebowski’s, Section 8, The Potato Shed & QDOS.

Premiered Chinese Whispers II as part of the Jazz Windows concert series presented by JazzWA and WAAPA.

Launched the debut MFO CD featuring all original music – Introducing the Mace Francis Orchestra.

Performed at the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) conference – New York City – with Frank Foster.

Assistant Musical Director with WAYJO – under Graeme Lyall AM.

Premiered “the 12 bars are blue, but not as blue as you” – a bass concerto to feature bassist Sam Anning - at the Perth Jazz Society.

Traveled to Italy to initiate a cultural exchage between jazz musicians from Italy and Western Australia.


2005

Recorded debut MFO CD featuring all original music – Introducing the Mace Francis Orchestra.

Conceived and premiered Chinese Whispers - a large-scale body of music involving 8 WA composers with MFO for the Jazz Windows Concert Series - This was recorded and released onto CD.

Commissioned by Qualitaly to compose Visioni dall'australia (Visions from Australia) – a collaboration with Glenn Romanis (didgeridoo) - performed in Bra (Italy).

One of four composer’s commissioned to contribute original music for WAYJO’s concert program at the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE) conference in New York City 2006.

Composed music for the short film Whipping Boy.

Premiered MFO with a month of Wednesdays Upstairs @ the Brisbane Hotel.

Guest Composer and Conductor with the Bennett’s Lane Big Band (Melbourne) including a concert of original music.

Recipient of the 2005 Bendat Family Scholarship.

Second place in the Annual Gold Coast Composition Competition - Open Category with Melodian Melody.

Chosen to compose the Perth Jazz Society Commissioned WorkThe Unpopular Song Book.

Founder of The Enthusiastic Musicians Union (EMU) – dedicated to promoting and encouraging original and improvised music.


2004

Winner of the APRA Professional Development Award – Jazz.

Commissioned to write three original works for orchestra and big band by WAYJO.

Formed MFO (Mace Francis Orchestra), a 12-piece ensemble, to experiment with composition and improvisation.

Second place in the Annual Gold Coast Composition Competition – Open Category with Blank Corner.

Travelled to Vienna to study composition with Ed Partyka.

Musical component of a two-week cultural exchange Qualitaly to Torino, Italy.

Winner of the international composition award Scrivere in Jazz 2004 – open age section, held in Sassari, Italy.

Recipient of the WAYJO Scholarship for outstanding performance and lasting contribution.

Completed Bachelor of Music – Jazz (Composition & Arranging) with First Class Honours at WAAPA.


2003

Completed third year of Bachelor of Music – Jazz (Arranging & Composition major) at WAAPA (West Australian Academy of Performing Arts).

Inducted into Edith Cowan University Chapter Golden Key International Honours Society for academic excellence.
Australian premier performances of the musical theatre production Wild Party – Orchestra member.

Awarded the WAYJO Patrons Award for Outstanding Contribution and Professionalism.

Member of Ensembleu formed by Amanda Jones to experiment with concepts of improvisation and Conduction.
